Hurtwood Ltd is an expanding energy consultancy and installation business at the frontline of efforts to combat climate change. We assist a wide range of organisations, both public and private in delivering energy and carbon savings across heating and ventilation plant and industrial plant, one of the largest areas of global energy use. We are a Social Enterprise and deliver cost effective products and advice predominantly to the public sector.

The work is very varied and includes the design of energy saving control systems, identifying and estimating energy and carbon savings and the survey and installation of microprocessor control systems. Our products and services control the efficient use of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and cooling. Some examples are below:

Various Art galleries across the South West: We maintain the correct humidity’s and temperatures within the art galleries for Bristol City Council and The Newlyn and Exchange galleries in Cornwall while using as little energy as possible.

Healthcare: We have used our electronics products to cost effectively refurbish obsolete and failed equipment that was resulting in heating running all the time in a number of buildings. We provide consultancy on energy saving measures for several acute hospital trusts.

Schools: We have refurbished and maintain the controls for the heating including from Biomass boilers on several schools to ensure their energy use is as low as possible.

Commercial: We fitted a new control system to Bristol City Council’s headquarters several years ago and use our own analytical system to automatically diagnose any issues with the control of the plant that could lead to energy wastage and poor control of temperature.

We instruct our staff on the latest Internet of Things (IOT) control platform and there will then be opportunities for the design of energy saving software and intelligent interfaces to energy using systems. We also design and manufacture our own energy saving electronics products so there is some PCB and electronic design. We also do on-site installation work and the relevant training for this will be provided. We work predominantly across Bristol, an energetic city that was the 2015 European Green capital and which has several initiatives to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. There is also some work further afield.

We are looking for someone with a blend of practical and academic skills to join our small team. We are looking for a degree in engineering of any discipline who can ultimately work unsupervised once full training has been provided.
