About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for a high-calibre and motivated environmental practitioner with a focus on managing and writing Environmental Assessment chapters, as well as the management and coordination of environmental assessments. The role will entail coordinating a range of projects including client liaison and financial management as well as technical consultancy for a range of sectors including infrastructure, development, power and water. Applicants with experience in assessment of the effects of developments on the water environment would be particularly welcome. Experience of at least one of; EIA, SEA, Water Framework Directive assessments and Habitats Regulation Assessment would be an advantage.
You will be a commercially-minded individual with a proven consultancy track record. You will work within and across a wider team to deliver projects across the UK.
The successful candidate will work with a wide variety of environmental & engineering consultancies, government agencies and regulatory bodies as well as other external stakeholders. You will be highly motivated and proactive, with a desire to achieve excellence in delivery and in the quality of your outputs.
You will have a minimum of a good degree-level qualification in a relevant subject with relevant post-graduate experience in project management and environmental assessments for the water environment and/ or cross disciplinary environmental assessments. Relevant post graduate qualifications and a good understanding of legislation and policy pertaining to the UK water environment would also be advantageous.
You will underpin specialist knowledge with proven project management skills and the ability to deliver independently and as part of project teams drawn from our regional offices. You will be able to demonstrate a flair for drawing together inputs from an unrivalled pool of technical specialists to construct compelling and rigorous assessments focussed on client’s needs. Strong analytical skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are therefore essential, as is the ability to co-ordinate multidisciplinary inputs.
Whether you are an applicant with academic, regulatory, consultancy or third sector experience you will need to demonstrate your ability to apply your skills in a commercial consultancy context through experience of managing projects and dealing with people effectively and professionally. Ideally, you will also be able to demonstrate experience in managing stakeholders and in presenting work to regulators.
- Previous environmental consultancy experience
- Comfortable working in both a technical and commercial environment
- Reviewing, producing and communicating technical reports, including providing effective and constructive feedback to team members as part of an ongoing mentoring and development process
- Project management experience including financial management and programme coordination
- Experience in the production and coordination of a range of environmental assessment types
You will be primarily office-based, although site visits and client meetings will be required. A full driving licence is essential.
- Technically outstanding in an environmental discipline or a related field that provides synergy with current business areas
- Knowledge of relevant current and emerging UK legislation
- Ability to manage a team and mentor more junior staff members (for Associate Director applicants)
- Tendering/proposal writing
