This is a position of significant influence and responsibility on the UKGBC Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. The role has overarching responsibility for setting the strategy and overseeing delivery of all UKGBC’s policy and political advocacy with national, devolved and local government. The role also oversees UKGBC’s growing portfolio of projects and programmes that focus on sustainable cities and places, bringing together local government with its industry membership to support sustainability ambitions in specific locations, and it includes oversight of UKGBC’s successful Social Value programme.
This comes at an exciting time for the built environment sector and for UKGBC. The Director of Policy & Places will be joining as UKGBC ramps up its role in elevating the built environment sector ahead of, and at COP26; with a suite of key policy opportunities in Westminster; with local government continuing to step up its leadership and need for support in delivering carbon and wider sustainability commitments; and with UKGBC members keen to engage with work in partnership with policy makers from project level to national policy.
The role requires effective collaboration with colleagues across the whole team to ensure maximum integration and efficiency, particularly Business Transformation, Learning and Leadership, Communications and Membership, to maximise the UKGBC’s value proposition for industry members. This role, and some of those reporting into it, will also undertake account management duties for Gold Leaf members, and engage more broadly with other businesses in the membership community.
As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Policy & Places is also involved in the design and implementation of overall organisational strategy, and contributes to the day to day operational decision-making. As a small purpose-driven organisation, it’s crucial that all roles on the Leadership Team are able to operate strategically and also be hands-on when necessary, adopting a constructive and problem-solving attitude.
