Summary

Are you passionate about protecting and enhancing special places to make a positive difference for people and wildlife? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Conservation Officer to join our Conservation Access and Recreation (CAR) team.

The role

Within our talented CAR team, we are committed to meeting our responsibilities to conserve and enhance wildlife and heritage, in addition to providing high-quality public access opportunities in our environmentally and archeologically rich region. We work well together to drive great solutions for our customers and the environment.

Reporting to the CAR Manager, you will support the delivery of Wessex Water’s duties under the CAR Code of Practice and compliance with statutory and regulatory drivers. The role is diverse and will involve all aspects of delivering CAR land management and the provision of advice to the business.

You will assist with the delivery of project work, including the creation and restoration of priority habitats, maximising the opportunities for birds of conservation concern at sewage treatment works and the evaluation of biodiversity data for natural capital assessment.

Your role will support the delivery of our SSSI land management and improvement commitments and assist with the implementation of capital works at Wessex Water’s key visitor and conservation sites.

Day to day you will also assist with surveying, managing and monitoring to conserve and enhance habitats and species of biodiversity importance on our sites.

What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you will hold a degree or similar in biological sciences or environmental management and will have experience of environmental project work and habitat management. A candidate with a sound general knowledge of UK biodiversity is required. Strong botanical skills are essential and good ornithological skills are desirable.

You will be positive and forward thinking, with a flexible approach to problem solving and achieving solutions. Good IT skills, including a knowledge of Arc GIS, Microsoft Excel and Word is essential for this role, as is an ability to deliver and report on projects within specified budget and time constraints, both independently and as part of a team.
