Assistant Farm Environment Adviser – Somerset
Location: Office : Wellington, Somerset with some home working.
Due to internal promotions we are recruiting for a new Assistant Environment Adviser to work within our well respected Hills 2 Levels team in Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and understanding of the delivery of on-farm environmental advice by supporting the work of our skilled advisers.
FWAG SW provides on-farm environmental advice to farmers on a wide range of agricultural and environmental issues. This new post will form part of the successful Hills to Levels team who have a wide variety of expertise on soil management, water quality issues, management of run-off, sustainable land management and Natural Flood Management (i.e. working with natural processes to help reduce local and catchment scale flooding). Advice is provided in a whole farm context which also considers other water quality factors, legislation and regulation, agricultural, habitat management and creation, archaeological feature protection, and landscape value, all as part of a profitable farm business.
Working within a team of advisers the successful applicant will provide assistance to deliver advice to farmers through 1:1 farm visits, report writing, mapping support, management plans, farm demonstrations and walks. The role will include assisting with Hills to Levels project work which is improving the natural function of watercourses to reduce the risk of flooding and low flows, as well as supporting the delivery of projects addressing water quality issues through land management advice and the delivery of capital works to help reduce diffuse and point source pollution.
The post will be based within Somerset, and will suit an individual with a relevant background who is keen to develop a career in agricultural and environmental management.
Applicants must have experience in GIS mapping systems, preferably ArcGIS or QGIS.
